It may not be the best option for families where the parents are native Japanese speakers (that would be like showing Dora the Explorer to a native Spanish-speaking family). Simply watching these DVDs will not make your child fluent in Japanese (there’s not much conversation in the videos). I think these DVD’s would also be great to show at a bilingual/immersion language school. It might be wonderful for a family planning to host a student visiting from Japan, or a bilingual family who wants to expose their children to as much Japanese as possible. There really isn’t a lot of resources out there for teaching kids Japanese right now! This set is a great option for a family who wants to expose their children to other languages at a young age (Dino Lingo offers DVDs in MANY languages other than Japanese too). Overall, I am thankful to Dino Lingo for creating this program for teaching children basic Japanese. Here’s a sample video of what the shows are like: – I thought there were some wasted minutes between segments with unrelated animations – The graphics/animations are not up to par with other children’s shows (don’t expect Disney quality) Some areas I thought could be improved upon were: – I can tell a native Japanese speaker is saying the words – Lots of repetition which is great for younger learners Here are some things I liked about the DVD’s: I noticed my 2-year old son saying the Japanese words out loud the second time… so repetition works! They liked the first DVD enough to where we watched it twice in a row. My son was excited about all the dinosaurs and vehicles used in the show. Of course, my children wanted to watch the DVD’s right away. My daughter, who knows most of her hiragana, got right to work reading all the words on the flashcards. There are even more Japanese-learning products to choose from online such as workbooks and posters. There are flashcards for numbers, colors, animals, body parts, etc. I wouldn't leave until the entire Sapphire league had been reduced to ash.Daily conversations, greetings and animals are included in all five DVDs. If Duolingo sent me a message saying I'd been knocked off my top spot, I'd return like an idiot scorned and go nuclear on anyone who dared challenge my Duolingo supremacy. I, by contrast, was getting my kicks from obliterating innocent men, women and children on Duolingo leaderboards. If that sounds like gobbledygook to you, congrats on being an actualized human being. I'd rattle through lessons quickly, earn a 15-minute double XP boost, then maximize that time by rattling through the easy "story" lessons for 80XP a pop. I discovered little bizarre techniques, just so I could compete. These leagues are tough and some participants clearly have bugger all else to do but toil in the Duolingo XP mines. That's where the big boys play, but even getting to that point is challenging. The big papa top league is the Diamond league. There are 10 in total, all of which sound like they're named after Pokemon games: Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Pearl and so on and so forth. You start out in "Bronze." But if you gather enough XP, you can gain promotion to higher and more competitive leagues. I was especially entranced by Duolingo's league system.ĭuolingo allows its users to compete with one another in a series of leagues, similar to the ones you might find in video games like Overwatch or DOTA. I shall become engorged with its hollow, forbidden pleasures. Let me suck at the teat of this bizarre green owl. Duolingo was a machine designed to make me feel superficially productive. The estimated base pay is 70,674 per year. This number represents the median, which is the midpoint of the ranges from our proprietary Total Pay Estimate model and based on salaries collected from our users. I gobbled up experience points and gems, the game's in-app currency, like a deranged turkey. The estimated total pay for a Learner Success Manager at Lingo Live is 70,674 per year. Those fuzzy feelings were reinforced by all the video game shit Duolingo constantly fed me. 10+ years recommending software in United Arab Emirates Browse 10+ years recommending software in United Arab Emirates Home Coaching Software Lingo Live. I had a baseline knowledge of Spanish (hola, amigos!) so I was breezing through with close to 100% accuracy, a gigantic ego boost that came with fuzzy feelings of achievement. Extensive field reports with advantages and disadvantages to features, usability, value, and customer support. I spent roughly an hour every morning, blasting through the early lessons. Steven Sacco, a retired language professor, spent 300 hours learning Swedish on Duolingo but still managed to fail the final exam of an introductory university course. One found Duolingo was equally as effective as learning in a classroom. Lingo Live Pricing, Features, Reviews and Alternatives. Multiple studies speak to its effectiveness as a learning tool.
